Lean In | Megan Houston

Each month, we take time to get to know some of our church members just a little bit better. We hope this short interview allows you to lean-in and helps us all know one another better and grow together as a body of believers.

Tell us a little bit about you and your family.

I am married to Colton and we have two little girls, Caroline and Garland Grace. We have been in Tuscaloosa around 10 years now, which I never would have believed when we got married. Around 5 years ago, I started my interior design business which is a constant juggle, but I love.

Can you share one way that God has been faithful to you recently or something he is teaching you?

These days the Lord has been showing me several areas where I have a hard time trusting him. He has been so faithful to not only reveal those things and how they fail me on the daily (our idols demand so much!) but has also given me the grace to cling to him and a desire for his presence in my life above anything else.

Would you rather be rich or famous? Why?

Speaking of idols... ha! Definitely rather be rich so I could be my own best client.

What is your favorite family tradition?

I love how we have begun to shape our own few days of tradition around Christmas for our family. We start with a big family party in Birmingham, have cousin Christmas, get dressed up on Christmas Eve for church, eat Chinese for dinner while watching a Christmas movie, and have a lazy Christmas morning. This year we started the tradition of having a big fancy Christmas dinner for all of our family at our house on Christmas night.

What are some small things that make your day better?

Coffee, toddler hugs, and a Marco Polo thread with friends who live far away.

What is the most impressive thing you know how to do?

My kids think the most impressive thing I can do is touch my tongue to my nose while crossing my eyes.

What is something that your friends would consider “so you”?

“I just listened to this podcast that you will love/need/talks about that! Here, I’ll send it to you!”

Name three things that you are loving.

I am loving organizing small areas of the house in the New Year (my closet, the junk drawer, bathroom linen closet). I am also loving the show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and drinking Lemon Spindrift.

What are you reading or have you recently read?

I generally have a couple of books going at once so right now I am reading Lit by Mary Karr, Seculosity by Dave Zahl, and periodically come back to How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish.
