World Missions

World missions has always been a high priority at Trinity.  Last year, we gave and prayed to send forth laborers to the harvest field in order to proclaim the gospel and build Christ's church.

We have a general fund that covers the operating expenses of our church, but we also have a Faith Promise Mission Fund that supports all of our missionary efforts.  This method has been used almost from the start of our church to help us increase our giving to God’s missionary enterprise.  Since we have a number of new people at Trinity, it is important to explain briefly what faith promise giving is and how you can participate.

Let me first of all explain what Faith Promise giving is.  It is a commitment between an individual and God.  It is a one-year promise of a sum of money that an individual, in dependence upon God, intends to give to missions.  It is not based on money that you have on hand.  The aim is higher.  Each person is urged to ask God what you should trust Him for, the amount that He would enable you to give to missions during the coming year.

“This requires faith; not faith-to-get, but faith-to-give.  Ninety-nine percent of the time we exercise faith to receive something from God.  We must learn to exercise faith to give something to God and His mission in the world.”  (John T. Seamands)

Faith Promise provides a way for God to enable you to give to missions more than your calculations show that you can.  Simply put, you “promise” to give in “faith” that God will provide.  You step out in faith with a statement of your commitment, then you begin to fulfill that commitment, and lastly you continue to fulfill it as God makes it possible.

Faith promise is a commitment to God not to our church.  It is based on His provision.  In one sense it is not a risk, because you give as God provides.  On the other hand it is a risk, because you begin to give to fulfill your commitment even before God provides.

For Faith Promise to work, we must cultivate a heart for the lost and a heart to imitate our generous God who gave His one and only Son for us.

Please pray about what the Lord would have you give this year to world missions.  Our office has faith-promise cards that you can pick up at any time.  If you have questions, please talk with one of our elders.

May the gospel make significant  progress in and through us this year!
